Ant Control in St. Louis

Residential & Commercial Ant Control Backed by an On-Staff Entomologist

Most ant problems in St. Louis run deeper than what’s visible on the kitchen counter. Foraging ants represent a fraction of a colony that can number in the thousands, nested somewhere out of reach. Arenz Pest Management Solutions, Inc. brings an on-staff entomologist to every ant control decision, so treatment targets the colony and the specific species driving the infestation, not just the ants you can see. We serve residential and commercial properties across the St. Louis Metro area, with over 75 years of combined pest management experience behind every inspection.

We offer free inspections, same-day and emergency services, and a satisfaction guarantee on our work.

Common Ant Species in the St. Louis Area

Effective ant control starts with knowing which species you’re dealing with. Treatments matched to the wrong biology fail, and colonies can replenish quickly when only surface-level foragers are targeted. Our on-staff entomologist identifies the species present before any treatment begins, so the approach fits the actual problem.

Three species account for the majority of ant complaints in the St. Louis region:

Carpenter Ants

Larger than most ants and typically dark-colored, carpenter ants tunnel through moisture-damaged wood. They don’t eat the wood, but the galleries they excavate can weaken structural members over time. Infestations often signal an underlying moisture problem worth addressing alongside the treatment itself.

Odorous House Ants

These ants take their name from the foul smell they produce when crushed. Colonies can reach into the thousands and move readily into kitchens and pantries. Because odorous house ant colonies often have multiple queens, incomplete treatment can leave enough reproductive capacity for a rapid rebound.

Pavement Ants

Pavement ants nest in soil near foundations and sidewalks and are drawn to both sugary and greasy food sources indoors. They’re a frequent kitchen intruder in St. Louis homes and commercial properties, especially during the warm summer months when activity peaks.

How Our Ant Control Process Works

Lasting ant control requires more than a surface spray. Our process is built around identifying the source, treating the colony, and closing the pathways that allowed ants to establish in the first place.

Inspection

We begin with a comprehensive property inspection to locate entry points, nesting sites, and conditions contributing to the infestation. Our entomologist’s involvement at this stage means species identification is accurate before any product is selected. Where carpenter ants are present, we also assess for the moisture conditions that attract them.

Targeted Colony Treatment

Treatment is matched to the biology of the species identified. Bait and barrier methods are selected based on whether the species responds to protein-based or sugar-based attractants, how the colony is structured, and where nesting is occurring. Bait treatments work by having forager ants carry product back to the colony; for large infestations, results may take several days as the material reaches the queen and reproductive population. We address both interior trails and exterior perimeter entry points to help reduce reentry.

Commercial Ant Control

Restaurants, office buildings, and multi-unit residential properties each present different infestation conditions. Commercial ant control requires a strategy built around the specific environment, regulatory requirements, and operational schedules involved. We work with business owners and property managers to develop treatments that fit how the space functions.

Between Treatments: Reducing Ant Pressure at Your Property

Professional treatment handles the colony. These steps help keep pressure low between visits:

  • Seal entry points: Cracks and gaps around foundations, windows, doors, and utility penetrations are common ant highways. Caulking and sealing these removes easy access.
  • Secure food storage: Storing pantry items in airtight containers and cleaning up spills promptly eliminates the food sources that sustain foraging activity.
  • Address moisture: Leaky pipes, clogged gutters, and poor drainage attract carpenter ants and other moisture-seeking species. Fixing these conditions reduces the habitat appeal.
  • Trim vegetation: Shrubs, tree branches, and ground cover touching the exterior give ants a direct route into the structure. Keeping vegetation pulled back removes that access.
